San Juan Island Roasters began with loose sketches—coffee beans, the historic Cannery Landing, a few nods to local textures and landmarks. But everything kept circling back to one central idea: capturing the heart of the islands. That’s how the orca whale surfaced as the core symbol—bold, iconic, and a true emblem of the San Juan Islands. I paired it with a modern, elevated aesthetic that honors the brand’s coastal heritage without feeling rustic or overly quaint. As a finishing touch, I incorporated coffee cup rings into the design—a playful wink to the well-worn rituals of a beloved daily brew. The result is a brand that feels both fresh and familiar, anchored in local pride with a polished, contemporary edge.
